About the Artist
I am a self-taught artist working mainly in oils but making occasional forays into other media.
My landscape work is driven by the desire to capture light - the effects of which can transform the most unpromising subject matter into something of beauty. I aim to portray the essence of a landscape rather than its detail, and believe that a work of art is a dialogue between artist and viewer; if a painting conveys to the viewer the sense of excitement I felt when first I viewed the scene then I would judge it a success.
I like to draw and paint on the spot. This ingrains the image in my mind and I find I can recall a scene quite well from these studies. My finished paintings are studio works; I find this process helps filter out extraneous detail.
In 2008 I was elected a member of the Buckinghamshire Art Society. I am also a past chairman of Wendover Art Club.
